Upon arrival in Nanyuki, you’ll check into your comfortable lodge or hotel, where you can unwind and soak in the cool mountain air. This includes an overview of the trekking route, safety measures, and expectations for the climb. After an early breakfast, drive from Nanyuki to Sirimon Gate (2,650m), where your exciting adventure begins. After registration at the park office, your trek officially starts with a gentle ascent through a dense montane forest filled with colobus monkeys, bushbucks, and a variety of bird species.

As you continue upwards, the vegetation shifts from the lush forest to open heathlands, revealing breathtaking views of the valleys and peaks of Mount Kenya. After a leisurely trek, you’ll reach Old Moses Camp (3,300m), your first overnight stop. Here, you’ll settle in, enjoy a delicious hot meal, and take in the crisp mountain air as the sun sets.

Today’s trek is more challenging, taking you through the Mackinder’s Valley, one of Mount Kenya’s most breathtaking landscapes. As you ascend, you’ll pass through moorland dotted with giant lobelias and groundsel trees, unique plants adapted to the high-altitude climate.

The trail offers spectacular views of towering peaks in the distance, including Batian and Nelion, the highest points of Mount Kenya. After a scenic yet challenging hike, you’ll arrive at Shipton’s Camp (4,200m), nestled beneath the dramatic cliffs of the mountain. Enjoy a warm meal and rest early in preparation for your summit attempt the next day.

Summit day starts before dawn (around 3:00 AM) with a steep climb toward Point Lenana (4,985m).
