Your Mount Kenya trekking adventure with Arrow Trekking and Safaris begins with a scenic drive from Nairobi to Nanyuki, a lively town at the foothills of Mount Kenya. The journey, which takes approximately 4 hours, offers stunning views of the central highlands, lush farmlands, and rolling hills, gradually transitioning into the breathtaking backdrop of Africa’s second-highest mountain.
Upon arrival in Nanyuki, you’ll check into your comfortable lodge or hotel, where you can unwind and soak in the cool mountain air. Here, you’ll meet your expert Arrow Trekking and Safaris mountain guide, who will provide a detailed pre-trek briefing. This includes an overview of the trekking route, safety measures, and expectations for the climb. Your guide will also ensure that you have the necessary permits and that your trekking gear is in order. If needed, you can rent any missing equipment from local outfitters.
After the briefing, you’ll have time to explore Nanyuki town, visit local markets, coffee shops, or take a short acclimatization walk to prepare your body for the altitude. In the evening, enjoy a delicious dinner at your lodge, where you can fuel up for the thrilling adventure ahead.

After an early breakfast, drive from Nanyuki to Sirimon Gate (2,650m), where your exciting adventure begins. After registration at the park office, your trek officially starts with a gentle ascent through a dense montane forest filled with colobus monkeys, bushbucks, and a variety of bird species.
As you continue upwards, the vegetation shifts from the lush forest to open heathlands, revealing breathtaking views of the valleys and peaks of Mount Kenya. After a leisurely trek, you’ll reach Old Moses Camp (3,300m), your first overnight stop. Here, you’ll settle in, enjoy a delicious hot meal, and take in the crisp mountain air as the sun sets.

The trail offers spectacular views of towering peaks in the distance, including Batian and Nelion, the highest points of Mount Kenya. After a scenic yet challenging hike, you’ll arrive at Shipton’s Camp (4,200m), nestled beneath the dramatic cliffs of the mountain. Enjoy a warm meal and rest early in preparation for your summit attempt the next day.

After celebrating your achievement, begin your descent through the stunning Chogoria route, passing crystal-clear lakes, rugged cliffs, and vast valleys. Arrive at Mintos Camp (4,200m), where you’ll enjoy a well-earned rest.
