Your journey begins with an early morning pickup from your hotel in Moshi (1 hour) or Arusha (2 hours). After arriving at Marangu Gate (1,860m), you’ll meet your professional mountain guide, register with the Kilimanjaro National Park authorities, and receive a briefing on the route, safety, and expectations for the day.

Morning: Start of the Hike – Marangu Gate to Mandara Hut

The trek begins with a gradual ascent through the dense rainforest, where you’ll walk along well-maintained trails surrounded by towering trees, moss-covered rocks, and abundant wildlife. Keep an eye out for Colobus monkeys, blue monkeys, and a variety of tropical birds. The air is cool and refreshing, making the hike both energizing and enjoyable.

After approximately 3-4 hours of hiking, you’ll arrive at Mandara Hut (2,700m), a popular resting point for climbers attempting the full Kilimanjaro trek. Here, you can relax, explore the surrounding area, and enjoy a picnic lunch with panoramic views of the mountain.

Midday: Visit Maundi Crater & Enjoy the View

After reaching Mandara Hut, take a short optional hike to Maundi Crater, a viewpoint offering breathtaking vistas of the Tanzanian and Kenyan landscapes. On clear days, you may even spot Mount Kilimanjaro’s snow-capped peak in the distance.

Afternoon: Descend to Marangu Gate & Return Journey

After soaking in the incredible scenery, begin your descent back to Marangu Gate, taking in the rainforest’s beauty from a new perspective. The descent typically takes 2-3 hours, making for a relaxed and enjoyable return trek.

Upon arrival at the gate, receive your completion certificate for conquering a part of Mount Kilimanjaro. Your driver will then transfer you back to Moshi or Arusha, arriving in the early evening.
